Sometimes, I wonder why I like dark, violent, angsty stories... why my fanart tends to take a dark twist... and then I remember what I grew up on.

Chirin no Suzu aka Ringing Bell
A surprisingly dark film for a G rating, an old anime made in 1978.

The likes of this film, along with others such as The Dark Crystal and Watership Down, are things I rewatched again and again as a wee one, I was downright captivated by them.
This film in particular my sister hid from me when we were children so I would not feed it to the VCR, she found it traumatic.

This film starts out so bubbly and innocent, Chirin is downright irritatingly cute and fluffy... but by the end of this short film Chirin is a sadistic killer.
This segment here shows how the little lamb became a blood thirsty ram (I love how intense this clip gets near the end) [link]
From what I understand this film came under fire for causing nightmares and trauma, me, I loved it as a child and I love it even more as an adult <3

PS if you love this film and never seen it subbed, do so, much better, it lacks the awkward filler dialog and some of the dialog between him and the wolf is much stronger.

PSS The Fantastic Adventures of Unico, and less so Unico and the Island of Magic, Sea Prince and the Fire Child, The Seven Swans, are also old anime films that also define my childhood <3

Very awesome FANART. I just saw this last night for the first time, I am 24 and never saw it as a child. I've been watching Watership down and Plague dogs talk about something dark. Felidae was meh not that great, but I loved plague dogs and Watership down and now I really want to read the books for both.

This film is awesome and you did a great job with your rendition of Chirin. I like it a lot. Especially the blood on the horns.

Have you ever seen the movie Felidae? I think you would enjoy that, if you have not already seen it ^_^

This was an amazing film. Controversial in terms of what parents want to show their children, but I enjoyed it too. You're not alone in a fascination with dark things, even as a child.

Oh I have not seen this movie yet. I watched a lot of the darker movies too as a kid. I loved Watership Down so much that when I found the book in the book store in my early teens I brought it. I love Dark Crystal too and My hubby get it on DVD for me one brithday. :D

I wish people weren't scared to still make cartoons with a dark side. For example "The Guardians of Ga'hoole" they messed the movie up horribly. The book has epic battles, dangerous weapons (battle claws, ice swords, among others, they are owls after all =P) most of the main characters families dies in a horrible way (One of them got their older brother eaten by another owl) there is also betrayal. The main characters brother becomes a feared killer (not unlike Voldemort and Tom Riddle) but in the movie their 2 different owls, imagine if they did that with Voldemort?! The horror! They also make all their parents/families alive, its all childish and 'adorable'. Their personalities were completely lost, the one who was supposed to be down to earth, deep thinker, silent etc. became loud, silly and obnoxious. The one who was a expert fighter and VERY boastful became some weird musician (he thought things like that were un-owl-ish so he would never touch them in the book) with some unknown accent.
Sorry for the semi-rant ^^;

I've just finished watching on Youtube (I will buy on DVD)an it's amazing. I wish I'd seen it when I was younger - I used to crave more of these sorts of movies.
I love the deviation even more now - it's been an experience rather than a simply a picture.
